The past two weeks have been a trying time for our PURE members as Hurricanes Harvey and Irma left a path of destruction through Texas and Florida. There has been a tremendous amount of loss for our members, and we want each and every one of you to know we are ready and waiting to help you gain peace of mind. 

Our team of in-house claims adjusters and PURE Member Advocates have been working extended hours. We have adjusters on the ground in the affected areas and have secured restoration firms who are exclusively dedicated to serving PURE members and PURE programs policyholders. Our Member Advocates are also available to assist those who have been evacuated from their homes or need alternative housing due to the storms. Additionally, our team of fine art experts from Haven Art Group and third-party fine art vendors remain prepared to assist members with their collections.

Advice and Guidance About Special Hurricane Deductibles

Hurricane Irma has made her way out of the Southeast U.S., but not before she made a lasting impression. There have been many reports of damage and widespread power outages, and a serious risk of flooding remains throughout some areas. 

I would like to offer some advice and guidance to PURE members who have Special Hurricane Deductibles. These are substantial deductibles that place a significant financial responsibility on policyholders, but make it possible for insurers, including PURE, to assume catastrophic risks for our membership. For many of you who have Special Hurricane Deductibles, the damage caused by Hurricane Irma may be less than the amount of your deductible, but it is important to remember that your deductible applies to all Hurricane losses that take place in the calendar year.

Here’s what I would suggest:

  • If you do not intend to make a claim, please take pictures of any damage and maintain documentation of the costs of any repairs as well as any additional covered expenses you incurred related to Hurricane Irma. If your area were to be hit with another hurricane before the end of this season, your deductible would then be reduced by the amount of loss you have already incurred and absorbed. Sending us the information and allowing PURE to document your file will help us respond more quickly in advance of a potential second event. Rest assured that alerting us to such damage will not result in a claim record that would adversely impact your premium.
  • If you are unsure as to whether the damage will be greater than your deductible, please submit a claim and we will send a claims professional to assist you.
  • If you plan to perform repairs at your own expense and you find difficulty obtaining quality craftsmen at affordable prices, please call us for help. We are well aware of the risks of price gouging after an event like Irma. We have done everything in our power to negotiate professional resources at fair prices.
