One Beautiful Thing: Nina Mehta
December 20, 2022
While we may pair different jewelry with our outfits each day and for special occasions, there are some pieces that we always wear. Those become a part of who we are. PURE member Nina Mehta is never seen without her diamond ring, one of her most cherished possessions. She wears it every day and only takes it off before bed.
In October 2017, as the Tubbs Fire blazed through parts of California, Nina evacuated in the middle of the night with nothing more than the clothes on her back–leaving her ring behind on her nightstand. The next morning, she learned that virtually every home in her neighborhood and the surrounding area, including hers, had been burned to the ground. Photographs, her jewelry collection and many other items of great sentimental value were lost or completely destroyed.
In the following days, Nina met her PURE claims adjuster, Andy, at the site where her home once stood; he began sifting through the rubble and found one of Nina’s bracelets. The discovery ignited hope and helped direct his search. He called in a crew for assistance and the team was ultimately able to recover Nina’s favorite ring and other pieces of jewelry significant to her.
Andy let me come to terms with it all while he went off to dig through the damage… giving me that time and helping me find my belongings was such a compassionate, personal touch.– Nina Mehta, member since 2016
