What To Do After a Fender Bender

It’s normal to feel shaken up after an accident. Even after the smallest of fender benders, you might not know exactly what to do. Here are some helpful reminders and steps to get the claims process off to a smooth start.

On the scene

  • Check yourself and your passengers for any injuries. If anything feels off, seek medical attention right away.
  • Call the police to file a report, and exchange insurance and contact information with the other driver.
  • Don’t feel pressured by the other driver to handle damages outside of insurance. This can lead to friction if there are any disagreements around the cost of repairs, and going through insurance allows us to do the hard work for you.
  • If there were witnesses, ask for their contact information.
  • Take photos of your vehicle, the other vehicle, any damaged property and the accident scene.
  • Leave it to the insurance companies to investigate and determine who is at fault for the accident.

Towing and repairs

  • If your vehicle is not drivable after the accident, call us at 888.813.7873 to set up a rental and tow to your auto shop of choice. If you do not have a shop of choice, PURE is happy to recommend a few options from our Auto Repair Network.
  • Do NOT authorize repairs or sign documentation authorizing repairs until PURE has inspected the vehicle.
  • If your car is not drivable, make sure the towing provider takes your car to your requested shop, and ask for clarification if needed.
  • You might be approached by tow truck drivers, repair shops or even legal representatives offering assistance. While some are legitimate, others may push unnecessary, unsolicited services or inflate costs. Verify credentials, check online reviews and ensure they are affiliated with a trusted network before agreeing to any services. If you're unsure, contact us at 888.813.7873 for assistance.
