Although Hurricane Fausto is expected to weaken throughout the weekend, it is still forecast to potentially bring high surf, gusty winds and heavy rainfall to the Hawaiian Islands early next week.

We are here to help. If you expect to be impacted by the storm in the coming days, we recommend that you:

• Make sure that your generator is fueled up and that the fuel supply line is unobstructed. Test it to ensure it is working properly.
• Check and clear drains, gutters and downspouts of old leaves and debris that could cause an obstruction and prevent water from draining properly.
• Elevate items in finished areas that may be susceptible to flooding, such as basements and lower levels of the home.
• Secure artwork or store it in a safe location. Move antiques and rugs off the ground or to an upper level of your home and move lightweight outdoor sculptures inside. For more collections advice, email [email protected].
• Move your vehicles inside your garage to protect them from downed trees. If you live in a flood-prone location, move them to higher ground. Avoid driving following the storm. If you must drive, be mindful of downed power lines and standing water in roadways.
• Bring in outdoor furniture, decorations, grills and trash cans that could be swept up by wind.
• Test your home's sump pump to ensure it is working properly.
• Have an emergency plan in case your neighborhood becomes flooded—this could include stocking up with extra food and water, charging electronic devices in case of a power outage and making sure your prescriptions are filled.
• Follow the required hurricane plan for your boat, if you have one. If you don't have a required plan, move your vessel inland and remove equipment that increases windage. Attach extra lines to the dock or mooring and ensure batteries are charged and bilge pumps are working. Your watercraft policy may help reimburse you for reasonable expenses to move your vessel to safety ahead of a named storm.
