Water System Check by HomePoint

Reduce water damage risk with HomePoint

The water systems check by HomePoint is focused on identifying areas of your home that may be susceptible to water damage. It includes upgrading plastic water supply lines for more durable steel braided ones and an audit for any areas that may be susceptible to freezing during a cold snap.

Greater peace of mind and year-round home maintenance. PURE members in Austin, TX, can receive a complimentary water systems check and 25% off an annual HomePoint subscription. Request an appointment >

How it works

A HomePoint professional will visit your home and if any risks are discovered, they will take steps to mitigate them. PURE will cover the cost of the home check, replacement of toilet and washing machine supply lines (if needed) plus up to $250 to help cover the cost of mitigation for any other issues that are detected.

Following the visit, you’ll receive a report outlining any risks that are discovered, steps taken during the visit to mitigate these risks and recommendations for additional work to further protect your home against water damage.

About the assessment

This program is currently available as a pilot to PURE members with homes in HomePoint’s service area of Austin, TX. If you insure a home with PURE in Austin and would like a water systems check, request an appointment to get started

A HomePoint Pro will share an overview of the areas where they will inspect—places that are often the cause of water damage, like toilet and washing machine supply lines, water heaters and HVAC furnaces. They will conduct an audit to identify any areas that could be vulnerable to freeze during cold snaps.

With your permission, they will inspect and document the condition of these systems and areas. Your HomePoint Pro will upgrade water supply line connectors and hoses, as necessary, to more durable braided steel lines and modern connectors. With your approval, they may also perform other minor repairs to reduce the chances of water damage.

After the visit, you will receive a report documenting the visit, the findings, any repairs made and any recommendations to further protect your home from water damage.

Your HomePoint Pro will examine the areas most commonly responsible for water damage and will document the location and condition of water-using appliances and select mechanical equipment.

The check includes:

  • Inspecting the condition, size and location of the main water line in your home.
  • Testing the water pressure coming into your home.
  • Documenting the location of the manual water shut-off valve and the condition of an automatic water shut-off valve if present.
  • Inspecting water supply lines and replacing them as needed. Examples include toilet supply lines, sink supply lines and washing machine supply lines.
  • Inspecting water-using appliances, including toilets, sinks, washing machines, dishwashers, water and ice machines, refrigerators, HVAC furnaces and water heaters.
  • Conducting an audit to detect any areas vulnerable to freeze.

Most home checks will take one to two hours to complete, but the duration will vary depending on the size of your home.

No. PURE will cover the cost of the check plus labor and materials for minor repairs made during the check. Further, PURE will provide a credit up to $250 towards the costs of the recommended repairs if you decide to move forward with any of them.

No. You are in no way required to act on the recommendations made in the report, and if you choose to complete them, you may use any plumbing professional you choose.

Yes. PURE is offering this program as a pilot to see if these visits can prevent costly and disruptive water damage losses. Your participation is voluntary, and we will not use the findings in any way other than to benefit you.

The findings and work performed will not negatively affect your premium or coverage. If certain recommendations are completed (for example, the installation of an automatic water shut-off valve) there may be a premium credit applied, subject to the terms and conditions of your policy.

Non-catastrophe water losses are a leading cause of loss among the PURE membership. Our goal is to reduce the costs of these claims to benefit the membership overall, and, on an individual level, to reduce the disruption members face when these losses occur.

This program is in its pilot phase and is currently available in Austin, TX.
